With both sides of his family coming from the carpet business, Bob felt destined to live in Dalton, GA. While he grew up in Sandy Springs, GA, he spent almost every weekend and every summer with his Grandparents in the carpet capitol. From an early age, Bob was exposed to business. His father and Grandfather were both entrepreneurs. Roy, his Grandfather and the biggest influence in his life, started Barrett Carpet Mills in 1970 and ran it successfully for over 20 years before selling and entering the real estate business. His father ran a retail carpet business and later in life got into the home security business where he had 20+ sales offices. As Bob points out, they were exact opposites in terms of their approaches to business – Roy was a believer in slow, steady, calculated growth and Bob Sr. lived for the explosive nature of startup businesses.  Bob learned from both of their styles.

Bob has always seen an opportunity to carry on his father’s legacy in the security business, but prefers an approach more similar to his Grandfather’s style. As a believer in Dalton and Northwest Georgia, Bob felt that the time was right to launch Alarm City is 2015; crime had increased and Bob wanted to ensure that he had done his part to protect the community that had become his home.

Bob is a Rotarian and a member of the Vestry at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. He has served on the campaign cabinet for the United Way, the Dalton State Athletics Board, the Roman Open Board and the Grow Greater Dalton Campaign through the Chamber of Commerce.

Bob holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Real Estate and Finance from the College of Business at Florida State University. He also holds the commercial real estate designation, CCIM.

 

Barry Slaymaker

Barry began with Alarm City in 2015 as Vice President, with a focus on operations and acquisitions. All strategic opportunities are first analyzed by Barry before evaluation by the executive team. In addition, Barry works closely with Bob and AJ to identify strategic partnerships and manages the process of bringing these partnerships to fruition. With a background in management of commercial construction projects and companies, Barry brings a unique approach to Alarm City. His duties also include risk management, human resources, accounting oversight, and initial legal review.

Barry holds an MBA from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School (2016), where he finished in the top 3 of his class, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Colorado State University (2013; 4.0 GPA) and an Associates Degree in Construction Management from Gwinnett Technical College (2005; 3.99 GPA). Outside of work, Barry enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 daughters in Rocky Face, GA and pursuing his passion for hunting and fishing.

 
AJ Jackson

AJ Jackson moved to Dalton, Georgia from Rome, Georgia by way of Sewanee, TN where he graduated from the University of the South. While attending Sewanee, he was a 4 year collegiate student athlete where he lettered 4 years as a starter for the Sewanee Tigers as a defensive back. He also majored in Religion and minored in Biology. He has always had a passion for helping people and has served as a proven leader at several other businesses, in which he was able to produce teams that excelled in customer service, profitability, employee development, and marketing. In his spare time, he enjoys spending his time engaging in religious research, hanging out with his family, and sports. As the Executive Vice President, AJ is in charge of the overall operations of the company. He enjoys taking care of each customer with the ultimate goal of complete customer satisfaction.
